Welcome to the New Year!
This winter and spring, we are fortunate to invite Miss Whiteman from Rocky College into our classroom as our student teacher. She will be with us until May, and she will be gradually taking over the teaching duties with my supervision. She is absolutely fantastic, and I know that she will really help our kiddos have the best third grade learning experience possible.
Here are our learning goals for the week:
Reading: We are finishing the last week of Unit 3: The Shape of the Land. We are currently reading fiction books and working on making connections between the books. The students are reviewing their vocabulary words from the last 3 weeks, writing about their Winter Break experiences, practicing spelling words, working on Moby Max Language Arts and LEAD 21 websites, and reading with me during Reading Groups.
Spelling: Words with the vowel sound + /r/ found in "air".
Vocabulary Words: geography, community, business, tourist, village, trade, wealth, owe
Math: We are currently reviewing the skills of rounding to the nearest 10 and 100, as well as adding and subtracting. We are doing this during our Math Game time. During Math Instruction time, the students are continuing to work on the strategies of multiplying and investigating different ways to solve multiplication problems.
Writing: The students are learning how to make a paragraph outline and then write a paragraph from the outline.
Reading Note: I will be assessing Lexile scores again on Friday in order to have a reading level for you on the second quarter report card.
Thank you!
Miss Kimpton
