Jan. 25 - 30

Thank you so much for checking the blog, even though I have been on a very odd schedule for updating it lately.  I truly appreciate your understanding and patience.

Reading: The students are continuing Week 2 of Unit 4 LEAD 21.  They are focusing on how water and people play roles in the story of the Earth.  The comprehension focus this week is on making connections and finding text evidence to support these connections and answer questions (can you show me where in the book that is?).

Vocabulary Words:  ancient, environment

Spelling Words:  words with the /j/ and /s/ sounds

Math: This week, Miss Whiteman, our student teacher, has organized some very engaging and supportive lessons for the students to practice dividing. They are working on finding the missing number in division equations while also learning to represent the equations using pictures and numbers.

Writing: The students are applying their knowledge learned in this unit to structure a paragraph that describes the three layers of the Earth.

Reading Groups:  If you are interested in our reading schedule for the day, I though I would share with you the different rotations that kiddos go through each day.  There are six rotations and only four time slots, so they visit each small group 3-4 times a week, depending on the group.  Their activities must be complete and third-grade quality by the end of the day on Thursday in order to participate in the Friday art/science project.

1. Spelling (They complete a page in the textbook, play a spelling game, and write the words two times)
2. Moby Max Reading Individual Practice
3. LEAD 21 Reading
4. Vocabulary Practice/Word Work
5. Writing in journals
6. Reading with the small group with the teacher
