April 14 - 17

The following are our learning goals for the week:

Reading:  This is the last week that we will be investigating heroes.  To wrap up the unit, the students are working on using the vocabulary words, small reading books, and writing to tie the concepts together.  They are also beginning to really focus on the main idea and supporting details of books.

Writing: The students are practicing writing summary sentences regarding books that they have read.  They will also begin  the process of creating their own short stories.

Spelling: Same double consonant

Cursive Letters:  Each day, the students are practicing writing the cursive letters during Language Arts.  So far, they have learned the letters l, h, k, and t.

Math:  The third-graders are well into memorizing their various multiplication and division facts.  They will be periodically checking out flash cards to practice at home if they so desire.  They are in charge of keeping them safe and returning them to me the following day.

New concepts:  Geometry!  This week, the students will be learning the definitions of polygons and the names of the various polygons (triangle, quadrilaterals, pentagon, hexagons, octagons, etc.)  They will also be exploring the various types of quadrilaterals and how they all relate to each other.
